While responding to a distress call, a 3 ft long Crocodile was rescued from the water purification plant of the BMC situated at Bhandup Complex.
The crocodile entered the purification bed through a channel from where the water from Vihar lake is procured to further filter, process and supply water to the city.
The reptile must have lost its way and entered into the water collection zone from where it must have been pumped into the purification plant.
Since there was no way out for it to go and was stuck inside the filtration bed, a rescue operation had to be initiated.
After an hour of draining out the water from the bed, RAWW Rescue Team led by Pawan Sharma with members Anil Bhalerao, Ritik Jaiswal and Ajay Kanojiya, safely and skillfully rescued the crocodile out of the plant.
The forest department is intimated and the reptile is further going to proceed for a medical examination.
After being declared fit, it will be inserted with a microchip and released back to its natural habitat.
On another note, as we all observe social distancing/self-isolation amid the COVID 19 (coronavirus) outbreak, a big shout out to all the emergency service providers, the hospitals, the medical staff, the Fire Brigade and animal rescue teams across the city and country who have to be on field to keep the citizens and our animals safe and sound.
